Do we need to create Turtle/ Process Diagram ?
(by Choong Ewe Lee)
(choong@brainperformance.com.my)

The Process Diagram is, like the Turtle Diagram of ISO/TS 16949 for Automotive Industries. However, it is not as comprehensive as what is required by Turtle Diagram. The ISO 9001:2015 has required to determine the inputs required and the outputs expected from the processes of QMS. To make it simpler, we recommend our clients to develop it based on the framework as per stated in the Figure 1 of 0.3.1 Process Approach (based on ISO 9001:2015).

So, what are the information/details to be specified in the Process Diagram ?

We shall address the 5 key information/details as below :
•    Activities : Any processes on possible controls or check points to monitor & measure performance.
•    Input : Any matter, energy, information in the form of materials, resources or requirements.
•    Source of Input : Any previous processes e.g. at internal/external providers, at customer, at other relevant
     interested parties.
•    Output : Any matter, energy, information in the form of product, service or decision.
•    Source of Output : Subsequent processes e.g. at internal/external customers, at other relevant interested parties.

How to determine which processes to be addressed ?
As we shall determine the sequence and interaction of the above processes based on the previous or subsequent processes, so we will recommend to establish or use the current Interaction of Business Processes(IBP) as the basis to develop the Process Diagram. Therefore, IBP shall be developed first, before proceeding to the creation of Process Diagram.
